A (man-made) river runs through it

Through a friend of a friend, I heard that Brookings, South Dakota has a pretty cool children's museum with a dinosaur exhibit. And so when it became apparent that driving from Rapid City back to Minnesota in one day was unrealistic, we changed our plans and spent a night in Brookings so that we could check out the museum the next day.

Yes, it had dinosaurs. And they were cool to look at for about three minutes.

But then, while outside, we discovered the museum also had this sort of pond and fountain and stream.

And just like that, the kids were soaked. I noticed that a lot of families came prepared, dressed in swimsuits. They must have been the locals.

The kids had a blast, running and splashing.

And then they got the ultimate prize: buckets! They'd been watching with envy as several other kids played in the water with metal pails. At last those kids moved on, freeing up the buckets for my kids to use.

We followed the stream to the end and found a pond where they could really get wet.

I left Jeff to watch them play while I ran back to the car to dig dry clothes out of the suitcase.

And this was just the beginning of the fun. We headed indoors after that. And I've got even more fun photos to share, but that will have to wait until tomorrow.
