Career paths

There's been a change of heart. Politics are no longer in his future, AJ has announced. He doesn't want to be president, after all.

He's found a different role he'd rather fill. He wants to be a general. Why? "Because I can be the boss of the whole entire army."

"If you're president," I told him, "you're the Commander in Chief. That means you're the boss of all the military."

"I just want to be a general."

The one person in our house with military experience shrugged his shoulders at the news. "At least people have to do what you say, if you're a general," Jeff said.
Meanwhile, Sydney has started thinking about what she wants to do when she gets big. Top of her list: dancing. She's going to come from behind a curtain and I get to watch.

It's important to note that in Sydney's mind, being grown up is defined as being four years old.

Other career paths she's considering include princess, doctor or fairy. AJ tried to explain to her that she couldn't be a princess because she doesn't live in Ireland (Ireland?), which only strengthened her determination all the more.

She's been getting a lot of practice as doctor in recent days. Ever since her bout with the flue last week, Sydney has been obsessed with taking temperatures. She's shoved a thermometer into my arm pit... oh, at least 100 times. I'll be typing at the laptop and then next thing I know, she'll be at my side trying to wedge her thermometer between my arm and body.

On a somewhat related note, the Shrine Circus is coming to town later this month. Every time the kids see a poster or commercial advertising it, their job plans change again. Sydney wants to be a "pretty girl."  AJ told her they have those at the circus. And AJ is going to be an acrobat.

Have we ever had  a general who previously worked as an acrobat?
