There's a sucker born every minute

I can only imagine the messages circulating via twitter the last few days. No, not that Twitter feed. I'm talking about the tweets of the robins and sparrows that have re-inhabited our yard now that winter seems to have passed.

#easytarget: check out the big red dog that goes nuts every time I fly by the door.
It's worth the extra fly time to reach his back yard #bonuspointsifhebarks.
#workseverytime: Such a rookie! He runs and jumps, but never comes close.

Gus has never been a fan of going outside alone. What's the point of that if no one wants to play with him?

But all that changed a couple days ago. Suddenly he was whimpering at the door to go outside, and then within a minute or two would be back at the door wanting to come inside. And then a few minutes later the process would begin again.

Initially, I figured he wasn't feeling well. But then I took a moment to follow his gaze. Birds! Sometimes they were brazen enough to land in the backyard. Other times they perched on the fence. How dare they?!?

Not on his watch! My brave bird dog chases the horrible yard invaders off his property. Phew! What would we do without him?

And then, just when he thought it couldn't get any more traumatic, Gus spotted a rabbit on the other side of the fence. That's just cruel!

It's going to be a long summer (we can only hope.) Now let's keep our fingers crossed that Gus doesn't actually catch something before colder temperatures roll around again.
