Game on - part 1.5

It's been a soccer-filled week with both kids now playing. AJ had another game last night, in which he scored two goals, the only two goals scored - by either team.

But the soccer highlight for me this week didn't come during a game. It was at AJ's practice Monday night. I'm not sure if it was because we were short a few kids, or because the coach recognized it as a fun opportunity, but he asked for a few parent volunteers to scrimmage with the kids.

I had come straight from work, and so wasn't dressed for it, but Jeff raised his hand.

There he is. Mr. Baseball. Playing soccer.

For the first portion of the scrimmage, AJ played goalie, so there we little interaction between the two. But then the coached shifted kids around, letting AJ and Jeff go at it. And AJ went down.

And down some more.

Though AJ was by no means the only one making dramatic plays. Though when someone as big as Jeff goes down, it's more comical than impressive. Noting that I'd been taking pictures throughout practice, several parents turned almost in unison and asked, "Did you get a picture of that?"

Thankfully no one got hurt. And it was a great way to end the practice and get the kids pumped up for a real game.

And now we get to look forward to next week's schedule, which includes four straight days of soccer. At least it's warmer than standing outside watching a hockey game.
