Fall beauty

I don't blame you Gus. No matter how brightly the sun is shining, or how unseasonably warm the temperature is, I wouldn't go in that water either.

Saturday afternoon, we took advantage of the continuing gorgeous streak of weather to introduce Gus to the glory of our pristine inland sea. Our amazing freshwater resource. Beautiful and awe-inspiring Lake Superior.

Gus was less than impressed.

It wasn't the cold temperature of the water that Gus found unappealing. I'm pretty sure he never got close enough to dip his toes. No, it was the loud sound of the waves crashing on shore that convinced our brave pup to high tail it to higher ground.

Eventually, we got him almost to the water line. The inner hounds (rock hounds, that is) in the rest of us couldn't resist hunting for treasure, and since Gus was attached to a leash, he didn't have much choice in the matter.

Overall, AJ had the best rock-hunting luck. At least he thinks he did. "I found gold, and a fossil and a fish tooth!" He announced, presenting his loot, which looked suspiciously like two pieces of granite and a very small piece of quartz.

Sydney, meanwhile came up with two sparkly rocks, one for each pocket in her new sweater, so she was able to leave happy.

And Gus, well, he was just happy to leave.
