Finally on the river

Twenty-five years ago, my short visit to San Antonio did not include a ride on festive boats that travel up and down the river. So it was definitely on my to do list for this trip. Even if it hadn't been, I would have wanted to go, just to get the kids to finally stop asking, "Can we go on a boat ride?"

And still, it wasn't until our final day that we finally took a break from walking the River Walk, and at last took a ride.

And almost as if by magic, just as we got on board on what had been a gray, overcast day, the sun broke through the clouds.

Our tour guide did a great job mixing history and humor along the way. He pointed out a tree growing out of a building, as well as another tree that had been used by snipers firing on the Alamo. He explained that the river was quite shallow, and that if any of us fell overboard, he would throw all 41 life preservers to us if needed, but would not be jumping into the water to save us. Fun guy!

This far into the vacation, Sydney was exhausted. Here's one of the few moments when she actually paid attention to her surroundings:

The rest of the time she was resting her head in my lap. That didn't stop her, however, from asking when we were done, "Can we go again?"

This was the last of our tourist moments in San Antonio. We headed north the next day. But we all had enough fun during our five-day visit that I echo Sydney's question. Can we go again?
