Sugar rush

God bless America. And God bless the children as Grandma Elouise attempts to leap frog over them in pursuit of a bag of Skittles.

No... this isn't just a funny picture taken out of context. During the 4th of July parade, my mother really did bolt out of her chair and rush into the street when she saw a bag of Skittles come hurling through the air.

Surprisingly, Sydney wasn't too thrilled with picking up candy at first. I think it had something to do with the Tootsie Rolls whizzing by her head that made ducking and running for cover seem like a wiser course of action.

But the promise of chocolate must have given her courage because she was soon heading out into the street with the big kids, eager to grab the sugar-filled treasures and stuff them in her "purse".

AJ, meanwhile, made a new friend, Logan. (He's the dark-haired boy in the top photo.) Together they turned parade watching/candy gathering into a science, analyzing each vehicle as it approached. "There's a candy thrower!" they would shout as they prepared to dash into the street.
About the time his Sponge Bob bucket got too heavy to carry, AJ proclaimed, "This is the best parade ever!"

  1. Dana obviously wants someone to reply to her blog, so Grandma Elouise's version.... Yes, I did run out to get the Skittles, BUT there was a reason behind it. I was getting tired of watching Sydney time after time cautiously try to pick up a piece of candy as Logan, and even AJ, grabbed the candy that was being thrown. I WAS going to get the Skittles for Sydney, but after Dana made such a big deal out of it, and Sydney later not wanting to finish another bag of Skittles that she got, they are now at Grandma's house.
