Making the grade

Don't confuse this photo with the one I took of AJ on his way to his first hockey practice. This one, at AJ's request, was taken as he prepared to leave for his second hockey practice.

"How 'bout taking just a quick picture, Mom?"

I am proud to say that AJ is proving to be both an athlete and a scholar. He brought home his first report card this week, and was graded proficient in all but three tasks. AJ has mastered creative, physical and reading/language skills. (Why am I not surprised?) He works and plays well with other children, can stand on one foot and expresses himself through music and imaginative play.

The areas rated as "in progress" (meaning he completes the task at least 50% of the time, but not the 90% required for a proficient score) include following 3-step directions, transitioning between activities and his control of pencils and crayons. On that last one, he apparently doesn't hold his writing utensil properly.

At the end, his teacher included a note, "I have really enjoyed getting to know AJ. He's very smart and sweet. We'll continue to work on following multiple step directions."
